Ewe people are not Ayigbe.

Ewes are not Ayigbe

We are not Ayigbe.

Ewes are not Ayigbe; rather, Ayigbes are Ga people who moved to Togo as a result of a tribal conflict known as the "Ayawaso war" between the Ga and the Akuamu.

Although they now reside in Togo, they still use Ga names like Ayi, Ayitey, etc., and speak Togo ewe.

When asked to return after the conflict, they refused, leading to the term "ayi-gbe," meaning Ayi who was their leader at that time refused to come back.
