THE HISTORY OF THE NOTSIE WALL (AGBOGBO): THE GREAT SYMBOL OF EWE RESISTANCE AND FREEDOM

Among the many stories that define the identity of the Ewe people, none is more powerful, emotional, and enduring than the story of the great Notsie Wall, popularly known as Agbogbo. For generations, this story has been passed down through oral tradition from elders to the youth, preserving the memory of a people's struggle against oppression and their determination to secure freedom for future generations.

Notsie, located in present-day Togo, occupies a special place in Ewe history. It is remembered as the last major settlement of the Ewe ancestors before their dispersal into various parts of modern-day Ghana, Togo, and Benin. To many Ewes, Notsie is not merely a town; it is the cradle of their collective identity and heritage.

The Agbogbo Wall of Notsie is an ancient earthen wall located in the village of Notsie in Togo. The wall was built by the Ewe people, an ethnic group of the Volta Region of Togo, in the late 18th century. The wall was built to protect the village from invaders, and is considered a symbol of Ewe identity and heritage.

The Agbogbo Wall is an impressive structure, stretching more than two miles in length and six feet in height. The wall is composed of mud and clay bricks, and is held together with a mixture of mud and water. The wall is believed to have been constructed by slaves from a nearby kingdom, as well as local villagers.

The Agbogbo Wall serves as a reminder of the Ewe people’s strength and resilience. It is thought to have been a symbol of protection for the Ewe people, who faced frequent invasions by neighboring kingdoms. It is also believed to have been a place of refuge for slaves, who were often taken into captivity and had no other place to go.

The Agbogbo Wall is an important part of Ewe culture, and is a reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the Ewe people. The wall is a symbol of Ewe identity and heritage, and is a reminder of the strength and resilience that have defined the Ewe people for centuries.

According to oral tradition, the Ewe ancestors settled in Notsie after a long migration that had taken them through several regions of West Africa. There, they established a thriving community characterized by trade, farming, craftsmanship, and strong social organization.

The early rulers of Notsie are often described as wise leaders who promoted peace and prosperity. Under their leadership, the town grew in population and influence, attracting people from surrounding communities.

However, the fortunes of Notsie changed dramatically during the reign of the infamous ruler known as Togbui Agorkoli, also called Agokoli. In Ewe oral history, Agorkoli is remembered as a cruel and oppressive king whose harsh policies brought suffering to his subjects.

Traditional narratives describe Agorkoli as a ruler who imposed severe punishments for minor offenses. Fear spread throughout the kingdom, and many people felt trapped under his rule.

It was during this difficult period that the great wall known as Agbogbo became central to the story of Notsie. Oral tradition states that Agorkoli ordered the construction of a massive wall around the settlement.

The wall was intended to enclose the people and strengthen the king's control over them. It also served as a symbol of his authority and power.

The construction of Agbogbo required enormous labor. Men, women, and youth were compelled to contribute to the building project, often under difficult conditions.

Many traditional accounts describe the wall as being extraordinarily thick and extensive. Historical and archaeological studies indicate that the enclosure stretched for many kilometers around Notsie.

Among the Ewe people, stories about the wall are often accompanied by accounts of the suffering endured during its construction. These stories have survived because they symbolize the hardships faced by their ancestors.

As Agorkoli's oppression intensified, the people began seeking ways to escape. Yet the massive Agbogbo wall made escape extremely difficult.

The elders and wise men of the community reportedly held secret meetings to discuss how freedom could be achieved. Open rebellion was considered dangerous because of the king's power and surveillance.

Eventually, according to oral tradition, a clever strategy was devised. The women of Notsie were instructed to pour household wastewater repeatedly on a particular section of the wall.

Night after night, they secretly carried out this task. The constant moisture gradually weakened the mud structure.

For many months, the women continued this silent act of resistance. Their role in the story highlights the importance of women in preserving and protecting Ewe society.

When the chosen section became sufficiently weak, plans for a mass escape were finalized. The people prepared themselves for a daring journey into the unknown.

One night, under the cover of darkness, the weakened section of the wall was breached. Through that opening, groups of Ewe families escaped from Notsie.

Some oral traditions also mention the use of sacred powers and spiritual guidance during the escape. Elders prayed to the ancestors and sought divine protection for the people.

The successful breach of Agbogbo became one of the most celebrated moments in Ewe history. It marked the triumph of unity, wisdom, and resilience over oppression.

After leaving Notsie, the Ewe groups dispersed in different directions. Some settled along the coast, while others moved inland and established communities that later became major traditional states.

These migrating groups eventually gave rise to many of the Ewe communities known today, including the Anlo, Asogli, Peki, Ho, Tongu, Agave, Keta, and numerous others across Ghana, Togo, and Benin.

Although centuries have passed, the memory of Agbogbo remains alive in Ewe consciousness. The wall is remembered not merely as a physical structure but as a symbol of suffering, courage, resistance, and liberation.

Today, remnants of the historic wall can still be found around Notsie. These remains serve as tangible reminders of one of the most significant events in Ewe history.

The story of the wall is commemorated through the Agbogbo-Za Festival, during which Ewes from different parts of the world gather to celebrate their common ancestry and remember the historic exodus from Notsie.

For younger generations, the story of Agbogbo teaches important lessons about unity, determination, wisdom, and the value of freedom. It reminds us that even in times of great hardship, people can overcome challenges through cooperation and courage.

The History of the Notsie Wall is therefore much more than an ancient tale. It is a living heritage that continues to inspire Ewes everywhere. The wall may have once been built to confine a people, but today it stands as a powerful monument to their resilience, their identity, and their unbreakable desire for freedom.

What lessons do you think modern generations can learn from the story of Agbogbo and the Exodus from Notsie? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's celebrate our rich Ewe heritage together.

HISTORY OR HIDDEN TRUTH? WAS OKOMFO ANOKYE AN EWE TOGBUI?

Okomfo Anokye

What if one of the greatest spiritual figures in Ghanaian history had deep Ewe roots?

According to some oral traditions, Okomfo Anokye was an Ewe Togbi and the twin brother of Togbi Tsali, a claim that continues to spark intense debate among historians, traditional authorities, and cultural enthusiasts.

Okomfo Anokye remains one of the most influential figures in the formation of the Ashanti Kingdom. He is remembered for his extraordinary spiritual abilities, wisdom, and his close partnership with King Osei Tutu I.

However, various oral accounts across Ghana tell different stories about his ancestry. Some traditions suggest he had Ewe origins, while other historical accounts firmly associate him with the Ashanti Kingdom.

Tsali and Tsala (alias Okomfo kye) were twin brothers. Their father was Togbui Akplormada. These brothers were mysteriously endowed with potent spiritual powers.

Tsala, who later became known as Okomfo Anokye, left Notsie on his sojourn at a youthful age, and finally settled at Awukugua in present day Eastern Region. Because of his spiritual powers, he became known as Okomfo Notsie (in Ewe language, Notsie Hunor) or Notsie priest.

In Anlo oral history, we learnt Tsala (Okomfo Anokye) returned to Notsie around 1695 to consult with his brother Tsali before accepting the invitation of King Osei Tutu of Ashanti to help establish his kingdom (Ashanti Kingdom).

During the reign of King Opoku Ware, a war broke out around 1746, Tsala (Okomfo Anokye) sought permission from the king to visit his twin brother Tsali at Keteklebi (Fiaxor) to celebrate and fortify himself at the annual Dzawuwu celebration of Mama Adexe shrine before leading the Ashantis to the war which he won decisively for the Ashanti kingdom.”

Is it any wonder that we currently have Anloga in Kumasi? Is this not a testimony to the bonds of cooperation that must be maintained? Any call to the cessation of this cooperation must be considered as misplaced, in error and of no consequence.

An Anlo Chief in 1900

Our oral Ewe history informs us that “Komfo Anortsie” was a Dogbo Nyigbo man called Amega Atsu Tsala Akpormada who used to live in Nortsie (a well established settlement in the 1450s). Amega Atsu Tsala (aka Okomfo Anokye) and Amega Tse Tsali (of Nortsie and Tsiame fame) are the twin sons of Amega Detor Akplormada (‘the thrown spear”), whose father was Amega Tsamla, son of Mama Kegbleape, one of the two daughters of Amega Gemedra of Nortsie, son of Amega Kugborka Gbe of Ketu, who was the son of Amega Kodisenu, the son of Amega Dzoboku. Amega Doe Dallah (father of Amega Anya, the founder of Anyako) was born after Atsu Tsala and Tse Tsali.

Amega Atsu Tsala and Amega Tse Tsali had other siblings. Amega Gemedra’s other children include Mama Kokui Doe Kutua Asongoe (Torgbi Sri I’s mother), Amega Atsu Madokpui Wenya (Dogbo leader and founder of Laofe Clan), Amega Tse Adedze Nyaki (Founder of Amlade Clan), and Amega Awaga Dotse Kpotsui (father of Bate Clan founders).

Togbui Nyaho Tamakloe I

Just like Amega Kli (son of Torgbi Ekpe), Amega Aga (grandson of Tsamla) and his father Amega Detor Akplormada, Atsu Tsala (Okomfo Anokye) did not migrate with the Dogboawo to the present day Anlo (established around the 1650s). He (Tsala aka Okomfo Anokye), Kli, Aga and others left Nortsie prior to the group migration. Amega Kli was the one who volunteered as a friend to help Amega Aga to escape from King Ago Akorli’s wrath after the “ame makumaku pe hlor biabia” episode in Nortsie. Amega Kli subsequently founded present day Klikor settlement and Amega Aga established Agavedzi and subsequently, Agave. Two of the reasons why Amega Atsu Tsala left Nortsie prior to the group migration include his dissatisfaction with and subsequent protest to the Dogbo elders about how the “ame makumaku pe hlor biabia” and the “installation of Kponoe as Fia over Dogboawo under a Tado stool” issues were handled at the time.

Togbi Sri II

One day in a fit of anger, Tsali … challenged his father to a public display of supernatural powers (amlimatsitsi). In response to this challenge, the father (Akplormada), removed his own intestines, washed them in a herbal preparation and dried them to give more years of life to himself. Tsali turned into a hawk and carried his father’s intestines away into space. Tsali searched in vain for the tallest tree on which to settle and swallow the intestines of his father. But Akplormada [had] commanded all the trees in the vicinity to be dwarfed. [He then] turned himself into the tallest tree upon which Tsali came to settle. Before Tsali could swallow his father’s intestines, Akplormada reached out his hands and Tsali dropped the intestines right into his father’s unseen palms.

Akplormada [then] ridiculed his son with the words: You know how to turn into a hawk as I had taught you, but you don’t know how to turn into a silk-cotton tree.” Unquote.

Tsala/Okomfo Anokye Stone Oware

[At one time] the whole of Tongu met and decided to drown Tsali. Tsali before his arrest had gathered all his personal effects into a haversack and slung it over his shoulder. At the meeting, he was tied hands and feet … with a great weight of granite rocks hung over his neck and fastened to his back. Looking like a monster, Tsali was drowned in the … Volta [River]. The villagers saw him sink, but on the third day, Tsali was seen by fishermen as he moved on the waters floating on the back of a crocodile he had commanded to come to his rescue. Floating adrift on the crocodile’s back, Tsali held aloft all the granite rocks in his hands and was shouting “Vinowo, mikpo vida: parents behold your child”. There was great consternation in the village: the fishermen abandoned their canoes and ran for dear life. The women yelled and screamed, calling on the whole village to come and see. Tsali [then] decided to leave Tongu for good.”

Togbi Tsala/Okomfo Anokye Golden Stool for Asanteman

The granite rock attached on the back of Tsali to drown him still exists and a shrine is built around it on the beach at Konu in Anyako where he dropped the rock. We call it Tsalikpe. The clearing in the Kleve Forest where no plant ever grows to this day was claimed to be the spot where Tsali sat on the ground to explain to his father the problems he encountered on that expedition. These events probably predated their migration from the Kleve Forest to Tsiame.

As pointed out by Kofi Ellison, it is true that the twin brothers, Atsu Tsala (aka Okomfo Anokye) and Tse Tsali did not die natural deaths. They just disappeared and to this day, nobody is able to tell where they went .

THE DAY RAWLINGS' TRUSTED ALLY BECAME THE STATE'S TARGET: THE DRAMATIC ARREST OF MAJOR COURAGE QUASHIGAH

One of the most dramatic moments in Ghana’s political history happened in September 1989, when the late Major Courage Quashigah, once a trusted ally of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, was suddenly arrested by the very military government he had helped defend years earlier.

At the time, Ghana was under the rule of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) led by Rawlings. Ironically, Quashigah had built his reputation as one of Rawlings’ fiercest loyalists, especially after his heroic role in crushing the bloody June 19, 1983 coup attempt, where he reportedly led military officers to recapture the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and save the government from collapse.

However, behind the scenes, tensions had reportedly started growing between the two men. Quashigah’s growing popularity among junior soldiers and ordinary citizens allegedly made some powerful figures within the PNDC uncomfortable. His increasing support for constitutional democracy and civilian rule also reportedly placed him at odds with the direction of the military regime.

Major Courage Quashigah

According to later accounts, Quashigah claimed there had been earlier attempts to frame him. In one shocking allegation, he said state officials once gave him wooden carvings as gifts for an official trip to Canada, allegedly hiding illegal drugs in one of them to get him arrested abroad. By chance, the specific carving was reportedly left behind in Ghana.

Then came the dramatic turn.

Between September 24 and 26, 1989, military intelligence officers moved swiftly against Quashigah. He was arrested together with several other officers, including Flight Lieutenant William Kofi Domie, Squadron Leader Edward Akakpo, Abdulai Yusif Mohamed, and Kwabena Donkor.

The PNDC government accused them of engaging in activities that threatened national security. According to state allegations, they were involved in a plot to assassinate Rawlings and overthrow the military government. Yet, despite the seriousness of the accusations, the state never publicly presented strong evidence or proceeded with a formal criminal trial.

Following his arrest, Quashigah was reportedly detained under harsh conditions by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). He was allegedly placed in solitary confinement, denied access to family members, lawyers, and independent medical care for long periods.

While he remained in detention, state-controlled media reportedly launched what many critics later described as a “media trial.” Newspapers allegedly published stories portraying him as guilty, including claims that he had attempted to escape custody and later pleaded for mercy reports strongly denied by his supporters.

The most disturbing chapter of the saga came with the death of one of his co-accused, Flight Lieutenant William Kofi Domie.

In November 1989, authorities announced that Domie had allegedly died by suicide inside detention. But when his body was released, disturbing claims emerged. Family members and human rights groups reportedly questioned the official explanation, alleging signs of severe physical injuries and torture. The controversy deepened fears that Quashigah himself might also be in danger.

Yet after more than two years in detention, something surprising happened: Major Quashigah was never formally charged or taken to court.

As Ghana prepared to return to multiparty democracy in the early 1990s, the PNDC quietly released him. His military career, however, had effectively ended. He was discharged from the armed forces and forced into civilian life.

But Quashigah was far from finished.

Rather than disappear from public life, he entered politics and eventually joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP), becoming one of its most influential organizers.

In a twist of history, the man once trusted by Rawlings later became a key figure in defeating Rawlings’ political tradition at the ballot box.

Major Courage Quashigah's story is more than politics; it is a lesson about power, loyalty, trust and survival during one of Ghana's most turbulent periods.

Did Ghana ever get the full truth about the events surrounding his arrest?

BORBORBOR: The Dance That Carries the Soul of Eweland

Borborbor, also known as bɔbɔɔbɔ, is a vibrant recreational dance and drumming genre performed by the Ewe people, primarily in the Volta Region of Ghana and southern Togo.

Originating in the mid-20th century in what was then British and French Togoland, it evolved from traditional Ewe forms such as tuidzi and akpese, rapidly incorporating European brass instruments like the trumpet and bugle to create a distinctive sound influenced by Ghanaian highlife music. This dance-drumming idiom, particularly the Norvinyo variant from Kpando among the Ewedome subgroup, serves as a social and celebratory expression that merges indigenous rhythms with Christian themes and modern Ewe identity, resonating widely among youth in contemporary Ghanaian society.

The term Borborbor, orthographically rendered in Ewe as bɔbɔɔbɔ (pronounced with a repetitive "boh-boh-boh" cadence), originates from the Ewe language spoken by the Ewe people of southeastern Ghana and southern Togo. This name is onomatopoeic, evoking the echoing and repetitive sounds inherent to the dance's communal performance, such as layered vocal calls and percussive motifs that symbolize unity and vitality in Ewe expressive culture.

Historically, the name emerged in the early 1950s in Kpando, Ghana, coined by Francis Kɔdzo Nuatrɔ, a retired police sergeant who founded the first ensemble, drawing from Ewe oral accounts of adapting urban highlife influences into local forms. These oral traditions emphasize phonetic repetition as a linguistic device in Ewe naming practices, mirroring the dance's essence of rhythmic cohesion and social bonding without direct ties to pre-colonial myths. Alternative designations include Akpese, its original name in some Ewe communities, denoting a precursor style, while it remains distinct from related dances like Agbadza.

Borborbor emerged in the early 1950s among the Ewe people in Kpando, located in the Volta Region of what was then British Togoland (present-day Ghana), as a neo-traditional dance form blending rural Ewe rhythms with urban highlife influences introduced during the colonial period. This development was spearheaded by Francis Kɔdzo Nuatrɔ, a retired police sergeant who formed the Kpando Konkoma group, incorporating European brass instruments like the bugle alongside traditional Ewe drums such as the pati (tom-tom) and ʋugã (master drum) to create a new ensemble style. The dance's rhythms drew from earlier local adaptations of colonial-era military brass bands, which had been domesticated by native musicians since the late 19th century through garrisons, police bands, and mission ensembles in the Gold Coast. Key events in Borborbor's establishment reflect the transition from colonial military signaling patterns to recreational and social functions, influenced by the broader socio-cultural shifts in Ewe communities during the mid-20th century push toward Ghanaian independence.

Initially performed by local troupes for community gatherings, it evolved by the 1960s into a prominent feature at Ewe funerals and festivals, where competitive bands showcased original compositions, choreography, and brass-led interludes to foster unity and youth engagement. While direct wartime functions are not documented for Borborbor itself, its instrumentation and structures were shaped by lingering colonial military legacies, including bugle calls adapted from British administrative practices rather than immediate post-World War II shifts. No verified records of performances date to the 1920s or 1930s, as the form's formalization postdates these periods. Documentation of Borborbor's early history relies on ethnographic accounts and oral traditions preserved within Ewe communities, with scholarly analyses tracing its roots to Nuatrɔ's innovations in Kpando. From its Volta Region origins, the dance spread rapidly to neighboring Ewe areas like Hohoe and Ho in Ghana, and across the border to Togo via migration and cultural exchange, forming bands such as Agbeyeye and Nɔvisi to promote social cohesion. By the late 20th century, it had become a symbol of Ewe identity while adapting to broader Ghanaian and Togolese contexts, including church integrations and national events.

Borborbor evolved from traditional socio-recreational Ewe dances such as akpese and tuidzi, which were popular among communities in the Volta Region and incorporated elements of urban highlife music. These predecessor forms, rooted in everyday social expressions rather than militaristic traditions, featured rhythmic drumming, singing, and group movements that emphasized community participation and joy. Following the cessation of major intertribal wars in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Borborbor built on akpese's structure originally performed in Kpando communities to create a more inclusive and vibrant dance. Key changes included the adoption of circular patterns that encouraged participation by men, women, and youth, fostering social bonding and celebration. In the early 20th century, these evolutions incorporated improvisational elements drawn from highlife influences, transforming the recreational style into a modern expression of Ewe culture.

Many older Ewes recall that Borborbor was originally a social gathering activity. At the end of the day, men, women and children assembled in open spaces to sing, dance and celebrate life together. The dance helped strengthen social bonds within communities.

Unlike war dances, Borborbor is a dance of happiness and inclusion. It welcomes everyone regardless of age, social status, occupation or religion. This openness partly explains why it remains popular today.

Borborbor is famous for its graceful yet energetic waist movements. The dance requires coordination between the feet, hips, shoulders and hands. Women especially showcase remarkable agility and elegance while performing synchronized movements.

The dancers usually perform in rows or semi-circular formations. They move rhythmically forward and backward while responding to drum patterns and lead songs.

Colourful attire is an important feature of Borborbor. Women often wear beautiful cloths and carry white handkerchiefs that accentuate their movements. Men may wear traditional cloths or matching cultural outfits depending on the occasion.

Music is the heartbeat of Borborbor. Traditional drums, bells, rattles, handclaps and vocal responses combine to create an atmosphere that encourages participation.

One of the most important aspects of Borborbor is call-and-response singing. A lead singer delivers a line while the entire group responds in unison.

The songs often carry messages about morality, love, hard work, leadership, family values and current social issues.

Borborbor is performed at numerous social occasions including weddings, funerals, festivals, naming ceremonies, anniversaries and chieftaincy events.

At funerals, Borborbor serves a special purpose. Instead of dwelling solely on grief, the dance celebrates the life of the deceased and strengthens communal support among mourners.

At festivals, Borborbor showcases the pride and unity of the community. Chiefs, elders and visitors often witness spectacular performances.

The dance has become an important educational tool. Schools and cultural groups across Ghana teach Borborbor to preserve indigenous heritage.

Researchers consider Borborbor one of the cultural treasures that bridge traditional African music with contemporary influences. Modern ensembles sometimes incorporate trumpets and brass instruments into performances.

Today, Borborbor is no longer confined to the Volta Region. It is performed nationally and internationally at cultural festivals and Ghanaian diaspora events.

Despite modernization, Borborbor continues to thrive because communities deliberately pass it from one generation to another.

For the Ewe people, Borborbor is more than a dance. It is a language without words.

It tells stories of migration, perseverance, togetherness and joy.

It reminds younger generations that culture is not something to be stored in museums but something to be lived every day.

Borborbor is one of the most popular Ewe dances performed in both Ghana and Togo.

It is especially associated with communities in central and northern Eweland.

It evolved from older Ewe dance traditions and later absorbed Highlife and brass band influences.

Women are often the most visually prominent performers due to the dance's signature waist movements.

Every drumbeat tells a story. Every movement celebrates life. Borborbor is not just a dance; it is the heartbeat of the Ewe people and a symbol of unity that has survived generations.

Our culture is our identity. Let us preserve it, celebrate it and pass it on.

Is it true Jesus was born 25th December?

There is no historical evidence to suggest that Jesus was born on December 25th. The date was chosen by the early Christian Church as a way to Christianize the traditional Roman winter solstice celebrations, which took place around the same time.

In the early 4th century, the Roman Emperor Constantine declared December 25th to be the official date of the birth of Jesus, and this date eventually became widely accepted by the Christian church.

However, the Bible does not give a specific date for Jesus' birth. The Gospel of Luke mentions that Jesus was born during the time of a Roman census, which was conducted by governor Quirinius in the years 6-7 AD. However, this does not necessarily mean that Jesus was born in the year 6 or 7 AD, as the biblical accounts of Jesus' birth do not provide a precise timeline.

Overall, the exact date of Jesus' birth is not known and is not considered to be an important aspect of the Christian faith. The celebration of Christmas on December 25th is more of a cultural tradition than a religious observance.

Ewe people are not Ayigbe.

Ewes are not Ayigbe

We are not Ayigbe.

Ewes are not Ayigbe; rather, Ayigbes are Ga people who moved to Togo as a result of a tribal conflict known as the "Ayawaso war" between the Ga and the Akuamu.

Although they now reside in Togo, they still use Ga names like Ayi, Ayitey, etc., and speak Togo ewe.

When asked to return after the conflict, they refused, leading to the term "ayi-gbe," meaning Ayi who was their leader at that time refused to come back.

Why You Need A WHY Statement: 6 Reasons

6 Reasons Why You Need A WHY Statement

Most people do not know what their true calling in life is. Some people just don’t care about this and are happy to be a drifter in life and just “go with the flow”. Others do care about it but have problems with identifying their real purpose in life. So here will show you 6 reasons why you absolutely must create a WHY statement.

1. It will provide clarity about what your purpose in life is.

If you don’t know your true life’s purpose then you will end up doing things that you really don’t want to do. There are so many people working jobs that they hate just to pay the bills. They dread Monday mornings and always feel apprehensive on Sunday nights. This is no way to live your life.

When you know what your true purpose is in life you can take action to achieve this. You will have more confidence and can get a job that will align with your purpose. You will have more energy and be motivated every day.

2. A WHY Statement Sharpens your Focus

Without the right focus in your life, it is easy to set goals that you are not truly committed to. A lot of people follow their friends and other influencers in their life and end up setting the same goals as them. We are all different and this rarely works out well.

When you identify what you really want your life to be about this clarity helps you to work out your next moves a lot more easily. You can use your WHY statement to drive you forward each day and achieve what you really want from your life.

3. You will make the Right Decisions

Have you ever made wrong decisions in your life? Of course, you have we have all done that. When you have a strong and compelling WHY statement it will help you to make much better decisions in life.

A lot of decisions have serious consequences and if you don’t know your true purpose then you can dismiss these consequences in exchange for short-term pleasure or gain. With a good WHY statement you will assess the long-term consequences and be able to make better decisions.

4. It Provides More Accountability

People that have no purpose in life tend to shy away from accountability. They are just happy to drift along but then complain bitterly when things go against them. It is never their fault of course and always someone else’s.

With a powerful WHY statement, you will know where you are going in life and be accountable for this. You will think things through more and only take action where it aligns with your WHY statement. This additional accountability will make you a better person.

5. You will be Healthier and Happier

If you only want to consider one of these reasons to have a compelling WHY statement then this is the one to choose. There is nothing more important than your health and your happiness. When you are happy then you tend to be healthier. If you are unhappy then your resistance is down and you can experience all kinds of health issues.

6. Your Resilience will Increase

Everyone has to face problems in their life. For some people, these problems are too difficult to handle and they become overwhelmed and stressed out. When you have a compelling WHY statement you can see these problems as opportunities for you to grow and attain fulfilment in your life.

Episode 4

Today started out as a buzz for Jimi, all day he has been running down the hall to fax an email, use the printer and answer phone calls at the same time. His secretary Clara.. Has been acting weird all day, he has just been too busy to talk some sense into her.

He was heading to his office after a draining presentation, what a Monday... Today of all days their foreign investors decided to reschedule today, he walked into his office and wondered if he was in the wrong office

Someone was sitting at his desk, playing with his system and acting as if she own the place,

"what the heck, "  Jimi said to himself as he moved closer to her

"Esther..." He rolled his eyes, not today

"Yes hon'' she turned and smiled at him

"What are you doing on my desk"

"Oh this" she readjust herself and opened her Legs in a way he could see her underwear

There was a bit of relapse on Jimi's part honestly he was tired from working so hard and a break seem like a good idea but Esther is hardly ever a good choice

Jimi break off from her tight hold and made enough distance between them

"Am very busy Esther and I have to get back to work so pls excuse me"

"I promise this won't take too long, just relax and let me take care of you"

She moved to stand in between his legs

" I don't want this Esther, yes we may have had something in the past but it doesn't mean anything now, am moved passed that and I hope you can too. Pls just leave right now I have more important things to tend to"

"You and this ur ego, anyway it one of the many things I love about you, I will get out of your hair now so that you can work but there's nowhere this ends here, simi told me you moved out of the house, even better now I don't have to deal with your sister always in our business, just text me your new address and I'll be there when you get back from work''

she turned as if she was heading out and then catches him off guard and pulled him closer for a kiss," don't forget to send me that address."

with that, she finally walk out of the room

Jimi was still trying to catch his breath when Steve walks in,

"Hey Jimi''he scoffs and covered his mouth with one hand

"What !" He yelled thinking it was Esther again

"Sorry man, I thought it was...."

"Esther" Steve chuckles "I should have known something was up when I bump into Esther by the hallway but look at you covered in lipstick"

Jimi touched his lips and quickly try to rub them off with a soft tissue " don't mind that little bitch, she doesn't seem to understand the word NO"

"Woah, now you are acting like you didn't enjoy it"

"Of course not, she just ruined my mood as if I wasn't already having a bad day"

"Too bad dude, I don't have good news either"

"Oh now what"

"Director wants you to represent us at the official merger with The Source media, he sent me to hand over the files and paperwork to you"

"So what happened to Jordan or even Mrs Bakare, they live their lives for this ...why would he want me to go"

"Apparently we have another major bidding today so Jordan and his madam are already there''

"This is so unfair I have a lot on my plate too, I can't just drop it all and be at a stupid merger"

"That's just what the big boss wants"

"Can this day get any worse,"

"I hope not, so how was your weekend, did you enjoy your stay at Philip's"

"No, I didn't and it's no thanks to you,"

"Why what happened, I already feel bad about it no need to rub salt on an open wound"

"Am not making things up, do you know Philip is a babysitter, yeah, he literally spends his quality time watching over his neighbour's kid. He gave me an earful about responsibility and shit just because I disagree with his wacko tactics on pleasing the single mother"

"Oh that must be Abby"

"Oh you even know her"

"Yeah, we met the last time I went to his house, the girl and her mother are so adorable but I guess Philip has other reasons for being so nice"

"Yeah I think so too, he sometimes acts as if he's a dummy, do you know he spend the whole of yesterday with them in their apartment after  they return from the church he went back to her apartment to have lunch and even dinner,

"You can't blame him, he is not you, Philip is a chill guy ''

"And what is that supposed to mean"

"Some of us don't sweep a girl off her feet at the first sight. we have to try over and over again to get them to even notice us"

they would have continued with the conversation if the phone didn't interrupt them, then Steve hurried back to his own office

❤️

Martha and Diana were sitting by the veranda when Jimi walked in and head to Philip's apartment, Martha waved to him and although not immediately he waved back before walking into the house and out of sight

"You just couldn't control yourself. "Diana rolled her eyes irritated

"What can I do, it is not every day you meet a very good-looking person.

"And what is so good-looking about him"

"Don't tell me you can't see it, cmon Di he is tall, light skin, with big brown eyes only a person with an eye defect that won't notice that"

"Go ahead and call me a blind person"

"Oh Di, I know you are not blind you are just too stubborn to admit it"

"What is there to admit, I mean what is the use of so much physical endorsement without proper manner and respect for others"

"Okay chill, you've only known this guy for what three days, you can't just conclude he is that bad"

"Trust me I don't need more interventions or clash to know just the kind of person Jimi Benson is''

"How do you know his surname is Benson"

"What.."

"You just called him Jimi Benson do you know him from somewhere"

"Of course not, I must have heard it somewhere besides do not derail from the point, I just don't want to see you get hurt, you deserve the better and this man is far from it"

she sighed " OK mother, I hear you '' she teased

" it's not like am into him or something, I just appreciate something good when I see one you on the other seem to not like this guy at all"

She detests him if there's another way to define it

++

After a hectic day, it seem only fair not to be stuck in traffic, Jimi was grateful he left the office early after an exhausting day.

Steve had teased him for turning down a club invite on a Friday, his regular Grove day but unlike him ...his mood was just so down throughout this week has so busy no rest at all, it won't hurt to take the whole weekend off and rest

He pulled over towards the apartment and it was unusually crowdy, just three or four unfamiliar faces standing outside but he was too exhausted to be bothered so he just pulls out his takeout from the eatery and headed straight into the house. Philip's car is outside but where is he, maybe he took Brady out for a walk, Jimi took a quick shower and started unwrapping his food,

He rushed to the kitchen to grab a tray when he saw her crying furiously, he looked through the window and watch her as she cried uncontrollably, what could be wrong this time, well that's none of his business so he just went to the living room and munch his food hungrily, even as he tried so hard to not think about her, he just couldn't help it

She's Philip's neighbour and for her To be crying like this something must be he walked out of the house and approached her friend, Martha

"Hey what's going on"

'she sighed frustrated '' we can't find Abby, we've searched everywhere"

"Abigail, but how can she be missing"

"I know it sounds stupid,"

"No I mean I did see Abby, I drop by from work by noon and the school bus was supposed to drop her off but she was crying seriously, I can't stand it when kids cry. So  I asked the lady on the bus, she said it was because of the school's excursion and Abby was not included apparently her mom didn't pay for her, then I checked you weren't here, Philip was at work too and so was her mom, so I just thought why not just pay for the excursion and save the little girl from being unhappy and having to stay here all by herself. so am sure she's at the excursion"

when Jimi finished, Martha was staring at him dumbfounded, well not him the person behind him so Jimi turned to see a very devastated Diana, hell she looked like a mess, her eye bags were swollen and red, in fact, she looked like she has just been run over by a vehicle

"What did you just say" she questioned him

"Uhm, '' Jimi didn't hear what she was saying he was too busy staring at her swollen face "

"I asked what did you just say '' she repeated at top of her voice "

"Oh I uhm I was telling her that"

"Do you think this is a joke" she cut him short

"I don't find it funny either"

"Explain yourself"

"I told her that your daughter isn't missing she went for the school's excursion"

"You actually paid for that excursion" he shrugged

" why would you do that and not tell anyone about it, who gave you the right to do such a thing... What business do you have with my daughter" he pushed him until his back hits the wall, Martha dragged her away from him

"You are misunderstanding the whole thing, I was only trying to help"

"Who asked you for help, do you know have called her School and they don't know where she is so I don't see where your good Samaritan leads mister?"

"Are you saying that am lying, I personally transferred 10000 to the school account today, the record should be somewhere on my phone"

"By the end of the day, if I don't find my daughter you will be in big trouble" she walked away but he followed her

"Wait, what is the meaning of this, it's not my fault that your daughter is missing or so you think, you brought this upon yourself you claim to work day and night but you can't even afford 10k for school excursion then what is the use of the so-called job that occupies all of your time. They were going to leave her out here unsupervised. I did the right thing by letting her go on that trip"

"I never gave you the permission to do anything, they wouldn't dare to leave her here alone, they closed early from school today and that's why Martha wasn't here on time"

"I didn't know I wasn't aware"

"Exactly! You know nothing so you are not allowed to meddle"

"I didn't mean to cause any trouble. Look just tell me what to do to help"

"You've done enough. Now stay away"

"Just explain what they told you in school"

"It's pointless explaining anything to you, you wouldn't understand, you've never been responsible for anyone before, you just don't get it and you never will"

"That's what you think and am not hooked because I planned my life with maturity, am not like someone who got pregnant and dumped before she could make a stand for herself, you should be thanking me"

she slapped him hard before he could go on

"You are good for nothing man, I hope you burn in hell ''

the school bus pulled over and Abby hopped down with aunty Jane, Diana hurried toward them

"Why would you take my daughter with you without my consent" she yelled

"But ma'am, am sorry I thought"

"You thought, do you see the people standing here we've been running helter-skelter to find Abby we thought she had gone missing, I called your headmistress and she seem to be so sure that Abby was not under the school care."

"That's because Abby made late registration and we couldn't pass the information to the School on time, the reception at the museum was so bad we couldn't get through to the school admin"

"Stupid excuses,, aunty Jane am really disappointed in you, and then why would you listen to a stranger"

"Stranger, but he said he was Abby's dad"

What!

Diana turned to look at him but he wasn't there anymore .she wants to just strangle him right now

Philip walked into the house and Jimi was sitting with his head throwback, he should have listened to Steve and just spend his time having fun not getting slapped for something he did to actually help her

"If you're going to lecture me, just save it

"No Jimi, ''he tossed the pillow aside and sat beside him " first of all, I want to apologize

Jimi raised his head and stare at him to confirm what he just heard

Yes, I apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced since you have been staying here, am sorry about the slap and this evening, I really wish things had not turned out this way between you two

"She is an ungrateful human being who thinks everyone is beneath her. who the fuck does she think she is"

"You can't really blame her she had no idea, you could have told me about it, it would have saved us from the turnout of the event"

"It skipped my mind have been really busy with work, I just came back home to pick up a file and that's how I ran into her, I thought the school would relay the message to her mother since I don't have her contact"

"Which is a good thing because who knows if you hadn't done that she could really be missing"

Martha waited until Abby has fallen asleep before deciding to go home. Diana was pretending to watch TV when Martha started packing up to leave

"Diana am leaving"

"Oh yeah, thank you so much dear, get home safely and make sure to call me when you get home"

"Don't give me that's it OK.. Look, what you did tonight was totally uncalled for"

"What, which part."

"Oh you lashed out today do I need to remind you"

"Of course and that's because I couldn't find my baby for hours. What did you expect me to do"

"You didn't have to slap him you know"

"You don't expect me to stand and digest all the horrible things he was saying to me, I had to shut him up,"

"But that was totally uncalled for"

"He kinda deserved it, I don't regret doing that at all''

"Indeed he went a little overboard but he did help, just be very careful, I'll be here early so you don't have to drop Abby at Philip's.

"No need, after what happened today, I think it's best if I stop working completely''

"Really ''Diana nods " oh girlfriend '' Martha hugs her

" Am so sorry,"

"It's okay Marty, I'll survive"

"To think he called himself Abby's dad''

'they both laughed but Diana wasn't really finding it funny...

 ❣️ Heart Robbers❣️

Episode 3

Diana couldn't waste any more time getting out of Philip's house after seeing that man there, she totally freaked out what was he doing here, how did he get here...

She can't be mistaken he is definitely Jimi Benson, The same Jimi Benson. she laid Abby down to sleep, and this bothers her a lot ..she paced back and forth in her room and wondered if Jimi already knows and that's probably why he is here...

But he didn't seem to act as if they know each other and there's no way he could have figured it out after all these years, well they haven't actually met and he probably doesn't even know she exists,

she might just have to ask Philip tomorrow what he is doing here. She shouldn't get ahead of herself this might just be a mere coincidence, her mind roaming around to the first time she heard of him

Flashback ** (2010)

Diana :

I was going to surprise my elder sister in her hostel, I left the home with so much joy since Dorcas left for school have really missed her and a surprise visit seem perfect.

I knocked and she opened, as expected she was very happy to see me.. She gave me a big hug and sprinkle kisses over my face

"Didi, what are you doing here," she asked puzzled

I smiled  "what kinda question is that"

"Sorry.... Where's mom and dad"

'I waved my hand over my shoulder  ''am a one-man mopol DC, I came on my own

"No way.. '' she nods in disbelief

"Am serious '' I pushed her aside as I walked into her room " this looks very different, did you change the painting

"Yeah ! The other one sucks, you still haven't told me how you got here ..should I be worried, maybe I should call mom made it here safely"

"Yes please, tell her I got here safely,.. Relax Sis, mom knows am here, she put me on a bus to come and see ur pretty face"

"Very funny, is mom at the admin. probably spying on me from the school staff"

"No, mom is not here, she let me come to check up on you and bring groceries '' I point at the bag that I came with,

"That is so thoughtful... Thanks"

You're welcome '' I slumped to the bed and my hand grab something from under the pillow "...I glanced at it, it was a photograph of Dorcas and a guy

" what do we have here" I raised a brow

"Geez. Didi, you just got here and you are already snooping around. lemme have that"

"Not before you tell me what this was doing under your pillow"

"Lemme have it '' she tries to grab it from me but I dodged and let her chase me around her room for it

"What are we five years old " she giggled literally out of breath

"It would be easier if you just tell me who this is."

"Why must you know?"

"Well I want to know the person who is important enough to have their picture under your pillow"

'she blushed "his name is Jimi Benson''

''And who is this Jimi Benson''

"He is..a friend, He is a smart amazing and a very good-looking person. He's just exceptional"

"Hmmm You don't mean it, how did you meet him?"

"Is that necessary" I nod she knows I wasn't going to drop it so she indulges me a little   ''he is my coursemate, so obviously we met in class"

"Wow, I hope you still concentrate in class because this is...."

"Shut up! And Stop teasing me Didi"

"Sorry, this is your first DC, I mean have heard you talk about a guy like that. you never really had time for guys in high school and here you are acting like so in love"

"Well, what can I say? He makes me feel so"

"So '' I whispered

"You are not taking this serious are you?''

"I am, so when do I get to meet this awesome Jimi Benson.''

"Next year"

"What"

"You will be joining me next year, so don't worry you will meet him next year''

"Why not now"

"because it not a good time"

"Yeah whatever, just be careful, I heard fine guys like this are big-time flirts

"Thanks, baby Sis I got this under control. just don't tell Mom about it"

"Not a word I promise, I still can't believe it, '' I glanced at the picture once again "Dorcas and Jimi, you guys make a cute couple" she blushed shyly.

*************

Jimi fought to keep his eyes closed, the banging was getting louder and somehow it feels like it was his head they were banging..

It had to be that silly simi or perhaps his Mom trying to annoy him this early in the morning, they know how much he loves to sleep extra hours on Saturday before leaving for the gym. This is mere wickedness he eventually opened his eyes and mouth at the same time, he wasn't in his room at home, he was in a very small room with a tiny bed, he jumped up and look around.

Oh, of course, he was in Philip's house.

But who would be banging the door this early? He checked the time. ..it was just 6:36am, he hurried out of the room when he got to the living room Philip was struggling to put his trousers on and Brady was barking like crazy

"Good morning'' Philip greeted but Jimi was too anxious to find out who was at the door so he just head straight to the main door when he opened the door, he nod angrily

Diana stared at him, he was not wearing a shirt, and he looked like he wanted to swallow her, she pushed gently and walked inside carefully dropping sleeping Abby on the couch. she wasn't going to stand there playing the staring game with Abby in her arms

she cleared her throat  "good morning"

"Good morning Diana, sorry it took me so long to answer the door, Brady won't release my clothes"

'Diana chuckled and winked at Brady  "I understand it one of those mornings" Brady was already sniffing Abby on the couch

"I am the one who is sorry for disturbing you this early, am getting late for work and Marty is not here yet, she is already on her way but I can't wait anymore, I would leave Abby alone in the house but you know how she gets when she wakes up and there's no one there"

"It's okay, Diana.. You can go"

"What do you mean by it OK'' Jimi interrupted coldly folding his arms

"Excuse me '' Diana said

"No you excuse me miss, what do you think you are doing, you can't just show up at someone's house with your daughter at 6:30 in the morning, do we run a nursing centre here or do we look like nannies"

"Jimi" Philip whispered

"Don't Jimi me"

"Is there a problem?'' Diana tried to understand his outburst

"It's nothing, em Diane this his my friend Jimi, Jimi meet Diana, my neighbour"

"I would say it's nice to meet you but it not considering the circumstances"

"Jimi can you just chill"

"No I can't, what sort of nonsense is this, how can someone just decide to wake every other person up because she's going to work and she has a daughter, that's just ridiculous.."

"Don't mind him Diana just go."

Diana turned to go although she has a lot to say she didn't want to get into that right now and this is still Philip's house

"Yeah just go, I wonder what kind of a mother you are, is it so convenient for you to leave your daughter with two grown men and not be bothered "

"Jesus.. Jimi" Philip want to clamp his hands on Jimi's mouth

"What! Haven't you heard of child molesters, they have their way once they are alone with a child, especially female kids, I mean which should be more important your daughter or your job, Philip was in his underwear while you are banging the door like crazy maybe you don't realize we are bachelors, not baby sitters."

'Diana turned swiftly literally choking on everything she just heard and carried Abby back from the chair and walked out of the house

"Unbelievable Jimi, just unbelievable"

Philip rushed out of the house and joined Diana and Abby outside

"Hey Diana holds on, don't listen to him, he's an idiot. he doesn't know what he is saying"

"Yeah maybe, but he is kinda right my job shouldn't be more important than more daughter. I shouldn't be enforcing this responsibility on you, "

"Am not complaining, look He is in no position to judge you, don't pay attention to his nonsense, just lemme have Abby pls"

"No, don't worry Phil, I have no issues with you, it's just him that I don't trust"

And she meant that in all senses

Martha hopped out of a cab and hurried to them

"Hey Didi, am so sorry I overslept"

"It's OK,"  Marty carried Abby from Diana's shoulders

" Thank God Marty is here, we'll talk when I get back so I got to run... Bye"

"Bye"

.......

Jimi's day was ruined because of this morning episode maybe he overreacted but have people learnt about privacy at all who does she think she is to just barge in here and shove me off the road just to come and dump her baby here

Philip might be digging it because he is into her and he wants to portray a nice gentleman act before her but that old mojo is not going to work as long as he is here.

When Philip came back inside he was wearing this big frown and he was obviously very pissed but he is not going to take back his defence just because his friend was being a do-gooder.

"Jimi what you did right now was totally uncalled for and insensitive, how can you talk to her like that? what makes you think you can just treat her that way?"

"Who are we talking about"

"You know who am talking about, don't try to act smart"

"I am smart and if you are referring to your single mother neighbour, you should know I just put her in her place"

"You don't even know her and you think you are doing the right thing by insulting and questioning her capabilities as a mother"

"I only stated the fact, you see she couldn't even say anything."

"What did you expect her to say after you washed and insulted her so cruelly"

"You know me, Philip, am not a stand-up comedian and I don't condone nonsense, I think what she did last night and this morning is total BS and if we don't stop her she's going to think it's her right to barge into our lives like that"

"You don't even know her Jimi. You only just met her yesterday, said two words to each other and all of a sudden you think you have her all figured out"

"Am being realistic, I know women like her, they get dumped by a man and feel the need to bombard the next available selfless person that comes their way with that responsibility"

"You are being cynical not every single mother out there uses people or wants to use people. We both agree that the responsibility of being a single parent is high and if you think you can shoulder such task alone it becomes harder, she needs all the help she can get and am willing to help"

"Showing up here by this time of the day and banging like she owns the place is a little too excessive don't you think''

"It doesn't happen so often"

"So it does happen"

"Once or twice she recently just move into the city she still needs help getting by daily"

"Whatever it is I just don't want people taking advantage of you besides you still have a girlfriend"

"What does that have to do with anything"

"Your sudden interest to share in your neighbour's responsibilities is quite questionable and I just need to be sure you are aware of what you are getting into"

"What do you think am getting into"

"Exactly you don't realize this because doing good is like a default setting for you"

"Just the same way I took in without a second thought. I help others too"

"Smooth so it bounces back on me too I see you are raising the bars on this one"

"As it should be, I expect you to respect my decision not explode it"

"Am just trying to look out for you"

"Am not a child look out for yourself"

"Wow"

"Yes wow .am done talking am exhausted."

He walked away.......

The Village Teacher (EPISODE 6) - Story Time

THE VILLAGE TEACHER

Episode 6 (final episode)🔥

………… I saw Kate in a white dress, walk towards me. Her dress triggered my mind to remember the dream I had the night before. “Is this a coincidence or does my dream want to come to a reality?” I thought. “Good morning” Kate greeted. “Good morning, Miss Kate” I responded, with the mind that Kate would give a reaction to the title I gave her. She never did. “How was your night?” Kate added. “Ooh! I had a good night” was my response. She didn’t know I had a good night with her in my dreams. I took advantage of the greeting and continued with a chat with Kate. We talked a lot about life in general and later limited ourselves to living in the village. I got the chance and enquired about Abiba’s lifestyle. Kate told me Abiba was a lucky girl because she would have been the one pregnant for Ken. “Like seriously!” I exclaimed. “yeah!”, Kate responded. She added, “When Ken came to this village, the chief said that he (Ken) needed a wife. So he decided to give Abiba out to Ken for marriage, but by then, Abiba was seriously sick. He then said that a man like Ken must not live even for a week without a woman, so he decided to replace Abiba with her younger sister, Rahi, who is now carrying Ken’s baby. Ken has regretted impregnating Rahi”. I was shocked by the news I got from Kate that morning. Kate didn’t stop there, she added, “I am quite sure the chief would say you also deserve a wife. He may even give Abiba to you. He cannot see a nice-looking man like you and wouldn’t take you as an in-law, now that you are even in his house. Hmmm! I am just assuming oooo”. I quickly retorted, “Aaah! How can I marry my student? That is only possible over my dead body”. I said all that but in my mind, I was like, “I even slept with Abiba last night in my room over my living body”. Kate told me Rahi was a student before her father gave her out to Ken, so the idea of Abiba being a student couldn’t prevent the chief from giving her to me. “At least, it is a great honour to have the chief as an in-law, isn’t it?” Kate teased me. I thanked Kate for feeding me with such information. Kate had advised me to act fast to avoid falling into Ken’s shoes. She also said that if only I had a wife, that could possibly prevent the chief from imposing his daughter on me for marriage. “Do you have a wife?” Kate asked. “No”, I answered. “Then I advise you to find one before you are forced to marry Abiba.” Kate added. “Where do I find one? I cannot go back to my town to search for an emergency wife. I don’t also want to marry any village girl.” I remarked, with the hope that Kate would suggest herself for me. Kate also remarked, “hmmm! I don’t even recommend a village girl for you to marry. You are too expensive for a village girl.” I was flattered by Kate’s remark. I had expected her to add something like “….at least a girl like me is ok for you.” But she never did. That would have been a good starter for me.

I thought of reporting the matter to the District Education Office. I didn’t want to pass a second night with Abiba-something could happen. I was scared of falling into the shoes of Ken. I then suggested to Kate about the decision I took. She seconded the idea but told me she would miss me, in case I was transferred from the community. “Herh! You would miss me”, I thought. I quickly told her she could visit me in the district capital. “But I cannot be seeing you all the time” Kate replied. “This lady is gradually endorsing me. But I must still report the case to get myself released from the community.” I thought.

Without wasting time, I took my books and left for the house to embark on my journey to the district capital. I went and told the chief that I needed to send some documents to the District Education Office. The chief told me there was no lorry travelling to the district capital that day because that day was not a market day. “So what do I do? Because I must present the documents before tomorrow”, I told the chief.

He suggested he would get somebody to pick me up with a motorbike to a nearby community where I could get a lorry. Two hours later, I was at the District Education Office. I presented my complaint and every officer in the office was astonished. “You mean we still have such a primitive attitude in this 21st century?” one officer asked rhetorically. The officers asked me to return to the community while working things out. I told them I wasn’t ready to go back to the community because I would be made to sleep with the chief’s daughter. I added that I had already slept with her the day before. “What! Is that how serious the matter is?” one female officer remarked. The director asked me not to go to the community until they investigated the matter. I was very happy with the decision. The only worry I had was that I was going to miss Kate.

Two days later, an officer went to the community and came back with his findings, which confirmed my allegations, true. The officer said he tried convincing the chief to change his attitude of giving his daughter school-going age out for marriage, but his plea wasn’t taken by the chief. The Director felt bad about the development and decided I would not go back to the community. He ordered the Deputy Director to repost me. I felt like I won a lottery, upon hearing that I was to be reposted. At about 5pm that day, I went to the Deputy Director’s house to pre-appreciate the reposting he was to give me. My pre-appreciation made him repost me to a school in the district capital. I was so happy. My only worry then was about how to get my items from the community, and how to get the chance to see Kate again.

I thought of not going back to the community to pick up my items because the chief would suspect I was leaving forever. ‘Kate’ was the only reason that could send me back to the community. “I must link up with Kate to visit me in the district capital”, I thought. The following day, I was en route back to the village and I was warmly welcomed with a hug from Kate like a girlfriend who had missed her boyfriend for ten years. It was then I realized Kate was also emotionally attached to me. She told me about how an officer came to the school and later went to the chief’s palace to investigate my case. I told her about how I was reposted to a school in the district capital. Kate was so happy for me but told me she was gonna be missing me badly. I also told her I was back to see her and wouldn’t mind having her visit me in the district capital. She agreed to my request and promised to visit me over the weekend. I was so happy that I didn’t bother going back to the chief’s palace to pick up my items. I quickly joined a vehicle back to my town with the hope of seeing Kate during the weekend.

I went and gave my room a new look. My room was then made dust-free. The only beverage one could get in my tabletop fridge were sachets of water. But because I was expecting a special guest, I managed to stock my fridge with a pack of Don Simon drinks and two apples. I had locked my fridge because of my hungry niggers who could come and drink the drink before the arrival of the intended drinker.

The following day, which was a Saturday, I went to the lorry station very early in the morning to welcome Kate like friends and family members go to the Airport to welcome a relative from Mecca. I looked forward to seeing Kate alight from a lorry, but my anticipation failed. Kate never came that day. I got bored. “Anyway, it is not bad to devote one’s time to what he much desires”, I said to myself. The next day, Sunday, I was with the hope that there was no way Kate would not come. I went to wait for her at the station, as usual. Guess what, she never came. I was highly disappointed at Kate’s disappointment. “What could have made this girl not come? Was she just pretending she had me at heart?” I asked myself. I went and organized my guys and we enjoyed the Don Simon and apples together.  They were shocked because they had never seen such a drink in my fridge. I told them I was celebrating my reposting. After the assumed celebration, I got my clothes ironed for a GES workshop I was to attend the following day. The next day, I was on my way to the workshop when I heard somebody call me, “Hey! Galaxy! Galaxy!” My mind quickly decoded the voice before I turned to know the person calling. Guess who it was, Kate. My heart palpitated. The first thing that clicked in my mind was the Don Simon and apples I gave to those useless guys of mine. “oooooh, Kate! Where were you when I had Don Simon and apples in my fridge?” I questioned her in my mind.

She greeted me and said she had wanted to come the previous day but there wasn’t any lorry in the village, since that day wasn’t a market day. I understood her perfectly. She added that she was to attend a workshop organized by GES. I told her I was just on my way to that same workshop. Kate then proposed we should go to my house before going to the workshop. I was happy but there was no Don Simon again for her, I thought. I picked her up on my bike and soon, home we were. We entered my room and I asked Kate to relax on the sofa. I then asked her whether she needed anything to drink and she said she was alright. I insisted the second time and she gave the same response. I didn’t want to go the third time because she could say I should get her any drink. I went and sat adjacent Kate. I didn’t know what to say-I was in a ‘Baafira’ mood. I counted my fingers several times and never got to any finite number. I didn’t know how to tell Kate that I love her. As I was thinking of what to say to Kate, she looked me in the eyes and asked me, “What is on your mind?” I responded “nothing”. She then said, “If nothing, then let’s go for the workshop”. She took her bag and stood up to leave. I gathered courage, took a deep breath and pulled her by the arms closer to me and planted a kiss on her lips to show a sign of saying, ‘I love you’. The kiss lasted for a long time which was a response from her saying, ‘I love you too’. “Aren’t we going for the workshop again?” I asked. Kate responded, “GES workshop dey bore”. I retorted, “E be so, dear!”. At about 12 noon, I had to send Kate to the station to catch up with a bus back to the village. Luckily for us, we got to the station when the bus was just about to move. Kate quickly entered the bus and gave a sweet wave as a sign of goodbye and promised to always visit me during every weekend. What a lucky guy I was! I was reposted to the community I desired, and I found love from the community I felt was a curse to me. Reposting was successful, and Love was built!

“Galaxy, you are too much! Hahahahahaha” I flattered myself.
