Kpando Gadza Exhumation Case: Two Cases Adjourned to November 12 at Hohoe High Court

By Prosper Wise Amegbe | Akpini News

The legal dispute surrounding the exhumation and reburial of the late Madam Anna Klu Apreku returned to the High Court of Justice, Hohoe, today 28th October, as two related cases were mentioned before the court and adjourned to November 12, 2026.

The latest proceedings mark another step in the ongoing legal process concerning the circumstances surrounding the exhumation of the deceased’s remains and the competing claims brought before the court by parties connected to the matter.

Information available to Akpini News indicates that the plaintiffs in the first case did not appear in person. However, an authorised representative stood up in court on their behalf. The same individual also appeared in connection with the second case, in which Millicent Apreku and siblings are plaintiffs.

It was reported that the lawyer handling the matter had travelled, resulting in the authorised representative appearing during the proceedings. The precise details of any directions given by the court concerning the representation have not been independently confirmed.

Both cases were adjourned to November 12, 2026. No final determination of the substantive dispute was reported from the proceedings.

Two Related Cases Before the Court

The two cases arise from the controversy surrounding the exhumation and subsequent reburial of the late Madam Anna Klu Apreku, whose burial arrangements became the subject of disagreement among parties connected to the deceased and her family.

In the first case, Emmanuel Mawusi, previously identified as the head of the Mawusi-Klu Family, sought recognition of the family’s customary authority concerning Anfoega-Agata, together with injunctive relief.

The second case involves Millicent Apreku and other plaintiffs, who have challenged the legality of the exhumation. Reliefs previously reported in connection with their action include a declaration that the exhumation was unlawful, forensic examination, damages of GH¢10,000, reburial at Kpando-Gadza and an injunction.

These are claims and remedies sought by the respective parties. They should not be interpreted as findings already made by the court.

Background to the Dispute

The late Madam Anna Klu Apreku reportedly died in Accra in 2025. Her remains were initially buried at the Kpando-Gadza Public Cemetery on February 28, 2026.

Earlier reports said the body was exhumed on March 3, 2026, and later reburied at Anfoega-Agata. The circumstances surrounding the exhumation and the relocation of the remains led to disagreement and legal action.

The dispute has brought questions of family authority, customary practices, burial arrangements and the rights asserted by the deceased’s children before the court.

The central issues remain matters for the judicial process to address. Until the court makes relevant findings or orders, the competing claims must be treated as allegations and legal positions advanced by the parties.

What the Latest Adjournment Means

The adjournment to November 12 means the two cases remain before the High Court of Justice, Hohoe, awaiting their next scheduled proceedings.

The appearance of an authorised representative, in the reported absence of the lawyer who travelled, should not, by itself, be interpreted as a victory or setback for either side. The legal significance of the representation depends on the circumstances and any applicable court directions.

Likewise, the adjournment does not establish that either party has won or lost the dispute. The substantive questions—including the legality of the exhumation, the customary authority claimed by the parties and the remedies sought—remain unresolved on the information available to Akpini News.

The next court date will provide a further opportunity for the proceedings to continue. Any orders, arguments, or developments at that sitting will be important in determining the subsequent course of the cases.

Police Investigation and the Importance of Fair Reporting

Earlier reports on the matter referred to a police report dated June 5, 2026, and the reported forwarding of a docket to the Attorney-General’s Department in Ho.

Individuals were reportedly mentioned in connection with the investigation. However, being named in a complaint or investigative report does not, on its own, establish criminal liability. Akpini News has not independently confirmed any subsequent prosecutorial decision or final judicial finding arising from the reported investigation.

The distinction between allegations, investigative steps and decisions formally made by a competent authority remains important as the matter continues to attract public interest.

A Sensitive Matter Awaiting Judicial Determination

The dispute involves sensitive issues concerning burial customs, family relationships, customary authority and respect for the deceased. It is therefore important that public discussion remains factual and that the positions of the parties are reported fairly.

The latest development is clear: both related cases were mentioned at the High Court of Justice, Hohoe, and adjourned to November 12, 2026. An authorised representative reportedly appeared in the absence of the lawyer, who was said to have travelled.

Akpini News will continue to follow the proceedings and provide further updates as verified information becomes available.

Josvik Academy Elects New Student Leaders Using Modern Electoral System

By Prosper Wise Amegbe | Akpini News

KPANDO-KONDA, VOLTA REGION — Josvik Academy, a private educational institution in Kpando-Konda, has conducted its 2026 student leadership elections using a modern electoral system and election materials as part of activities associated with its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting.

The election formed the third part of the programme, following the PTA meeting and the commissioning of an ultramodern sanitation facility built by the school and handed over to the PTA.

Unlike an election limited to a single student leadership position, the exercise covered the selection of class prefects from Kindergarten (KG) through Basic 7, alongside school-level leadership positions, including Senior Prefect and Sanitation Prefect, among other offices.

The use of a modern electoral system and election materials brought an organised approach to the selection process. The exercise also provided an opportunity for pupils to participate in a structured electoral process and gain practical exposure to voting, representation and leadership.

Promoting student participation and leadership

Student leadership elections can help pupils develop a better understanding of democratic participation, responsibility, accountability and respect for the choices of others.

By participating in the selection of their representatives, pupils can learn how leaders are chosen and understand the responsibilities attached to leadership positions. Class prefects and school-level prefects also play important roles in supporting discipline, communication between pupils and teachers, sanitation and the smooth running of school activities.

The inclusion of positions relating to sanitation further connects student leadership with the maintenance of a clean and healthy school environment.

The exercise formed part of a broader programme that addressed academic performance, school discipline, institutional development, educational supervision, private-school policies and health, hygiene and sanitation.

A practical lesson in elections

The introduction of a modern electoral system and election materials gave the 2026 exercise an additional educational dimension, allowing pupils to experience an organised process for choosing representatives.

The election marked an important part of Josvik Academy’s programme, bringing student representation and leadership development into the wider conversation about the growth of the school.

Volta North Police Report Arrests, Recovery of AK-47 and Other Firearms, and Suspected Cannabis in Separate Operations

By: Prosper Wise Amegbe

The Volta North Regional Police Command has announced two separate operations resulting in the arrest of suspects in connection with alleged threats of death, unlawful possession of firearms, and suspected narcotic-related offences in parts of the Volta Region.

The operational developments were outlined during a press briefing by the Volta North Regional Police Commander, who reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime, illegal firearms and drug-related activities.

Suspect arrested following alleged death threat at Kpando Circuit Court

According to the Police, Saviour Dzadze was arrested on October 14, 2026, at the premises of the Kpando Circuit Court after the complainant, Mr. Dodzi Kpakpamikpe, identified him as the person who had allegedly threatened his life.

Police said the suspect was subsequently taken to a cottage in Alavanyo-Dzogbedze in the Kpando District, described as his hideout, where officers conducted a search in his presence.

The search reportedly led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, a pump-action gun, a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, ten rounds of live AAA Lion cartridges, and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, also known as cannabis.

The recovered items were conveyed to the Kpando Divisional Police Headquarters to support further investigations.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that his brother, Foster Dzadze, an electrician based in Accra, had given him the pump-action gun, although he was unable to produce the documents he claimed covered the weapon. He also reportedly said that the locally manufactured gun belonged to his late father.

Regarding the AK-47, Police said the suspect claimed to have acquired it through a barter arrangement with a person identified only as Komla, who allegedly exchanged the rifle for cannabis cultivated by the suspect. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he did not know Komla’s precise whereabouts.

The Command said efforts were underway to locate Foster Dzadze and identify and apprehend the individual known as Komla.

Marine Police uncover suspected cannabis plantation

In a separate operation, Marine Police officers based in Kpando reportedly discovered a suspected cannabis plantation and 16 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District.

According to the briefing, officers made the discovery during a routine patrol along the Volta Lake, where they found a fenced wooden structure with the suspected plantation behind it.

A 31-year-old suspect, Vincent Lotsu, was arrested in connection with the case. Police said the suspect and exhibits were handed over to the Kpando Divisional Police Investigation Department, while the suspected narcotics were sent to a crime laboratory for examination.

The suspect remained in Police custody to assist with investigations, with the Command indicating that he would subsequently be brought before a court.

Police warn against criminal activities

The Volta North Regional Police Command reiterated its determination to intensify efforts against drug trafficking, illegal firearms and related offences. It also urged young people to desist from illicit activities and encouraged residents to report credible information about crime in their communities.

The Regional Commander commended officers of the Kpando Divisional Command and the Marine Police unit for their alertness, swift response and professionalism. The Commander also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohonu, for his leadership, and acknowledged the media’s role in informing the public about security operations.

The Command assured residents that public safety remained a priority and pledged to continue working to maintain peace and order throughout the region.

The outcome places Afada among the elected youth representatives listed on the results platform, marking a new chapter in his participation in youth leadership and civic engagement in the Ho West constituency.

A Mandate for Youth Representation

Justice Afada's election comes within the broader objective of youth parliamentary initiatives in Ghana, which seek to provide young people with opportunities to participate in governance, deliberate on community concerns and contribute to discussions on national development.

The National Youth Authority (NYA) describes the Youth Parliament as a platform through which young people can participate in governance and address issues affecting their communities. The initiative also seeks to encourage youth involvement in decision-making processes.

Through such platforms, young people have opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in parliamentary-style deliberations, and raise concerns relating to education, employment, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and other issues affecting their communities.

Focus on Youth Participation and Accountability

As an elected youth representative, Afada's position provides an opportunity to contribute to discussions on the needs and aspirations of young people in Ho West.

Youth parliamentary representation is intended to create avenues for constructive dialogue between young people and relevant stakeholders. The National Youth Authority has also highlighted the role of Youth Parliaments in promoting democratic participation and enabling young people to contribute to governance and development.

The practical impact of such representation depends on the issues raised, the participation of young people in deliberations, and the extent to which their concerns receive attention from relevant institutions.
